Good to hear from you Jay. Sorry to hear you won't be making creations for others anymore but I understands. Sounds like you are still going to be involved with puppetry though. I didn't realize that Frankenstein had a FB page. Cool pics from behind the scenes.
P.S. Fixed the link for you.

So pleased you came through it all ok. I didn't even realize we had members who lived down in that area. Be safe.
Re: Question about fabric Posted in Question about fabric on Aug 31, 2012
Well I went hunting for Godzilla Lycra Fabric and the first thing that came up was this. http://www.milanoo.com/search/ClassId-0-keyword-godzilla+suit.html I have not been through them all but perhaps there is one that would work. Granted these are body suits but for the prices I was seeing you the yardage would most likely cost you the same. I'll keep looking. I think the best bet is going to be a lycra or spandex fabric. These seem to be the ones they do in prints like this the most.
P.S. You might not want to view this site with your kids looking over you shoulder. Some of the images are kind of like looking at a Fredrick's of Hollywood catalog.

I'll have to keep that in mind. I went last year but did not plan to go this year. Might have to change my mind now.

Re: Help... Crossed strings on a new marionette Posted in Help... Crossed strings on a new marionette on Aug 27, 2012
Na article gives you all the basics you need really. In your case I would almost suggest simply untying at least a couple of the strings and then retying them. The back or butt string is going to be the one to go for first. If you untie a string roll it around a small piece of cardboard and pin that to the puppet where it is attached. This will keep the string out of your way and keep it from getting tangled back up in the other strings while you work.

That is really nice. I also like that Wez details the build on his blog. http://www.wezsworld.blogspot.com/ He's done some very cool puppets. I love this line at the end of his About Wez page.

Re: How much to charge for puppets at craft fair? Posted in How much to charge for puppets at craft fair? on Aug 21, 2012
I think you are going to want to keep it to $20.00 or under. The said truth is that while they may be worth more I am not sure that at a craft fair type set up that you'll be able to get $25.00. Have you been to this event before? What was the most popular booth and what where they selling items for?
Re: Sewing machine advice please Posted in Sewing machine advice please on Aug 20, 2012
I just wanted to add a quick note that although it is good to have a nice sturdy machine that there are some basic low cost items that can help with just about any machine. First make sure you have the correct weight needle. The higher the number the heavier a fabric it can handle. The a 14 or 16 is what I use for heavier fabrics.
Your machine might already have a walking foot with it. Walking foots can help guide/push heavier fabrics through the machine.
I have a standing gig each year with a company that deals with both body characters and costumes that are heavy fabrics. They have a large array of machines available to me including industrial machines. You want to know which machine I choose each year? A cheap little household Juki with no frills. I've plowed through heavy fabrics and furs with this guy for over ten years now. Granted I've been sewing most my life and have a feel for fabric and how to manipulate it through a machine, but don't get too caught up on owning the "right" machine.
