Re: Look a live cow!!!!! Posted in Look a live cow!!!!! on Aug 31, 2010
That was pretty cool. I was almost afraid the cow was going to take a big bite and that we would have a naked hand in the video.
The only thing I would like to suggest is a better balance on audio between live and sound effects. I had to turn the volume up to here the puppet but then got blasted by the SFX.

Great report Karen! Thanks for sharing. This was actually what I was referring to in Karen's intro everyone. I realized right of the bat that she was good at connecting the dots so to speak.
People well often email me and ask if they can "advertise" on the site. I offer to them what is offered to everyone, which is the ability to network. Your profile is a great place to start. You can add info about yourself there and link your site and some of the other social networks that are out there. While I like folks to keep it kind of simple you also have your signature that is attached to every post you make that can hold an advertisement of sorts. I am not a big fan of flashing banners and such in sigs but line or two and a couple links can serve you well. Then all you need to do is become active in the community. Each time you post you advertise.
Again thank you Karen for taking the time to do the write up.

Re: Roly Mouth Posted in Roly Mouth on Aug 29, 2010
I can't remember for sure on the Roly and can't find my copy at the moment, but I don't think the pencil length applies on this pattern. I think it is similar to the Glorified Sock Puppet and you don't actually have a gap. If you are covering the inside of the mouth with felt then you should cut it the same size as your foam and it would be one solid piece.
Re: Working with Faux Fur Help... Posted in Working with Faux Fur Help... on Aug 28, 2010
I don't trim my fur. I do what you did. I brush the fur inwards away from the seam then sew. If some gets caught in the seam I comb it out like you did or use a sharp point like a awl or even a pin. Sewing fur takes patients and you need to go slow. As you sew you have to kind of keep pushing the fur back away from the edge. As you sew you can use an awl, point of scissors, ruler or something like that to push the fur back. You can use your fingers but watch out for that sewing machine needle.
I assume you are talking about the fur in the picture you posted of your new puppet. It does look like it is pretty thick. That is the hardest to work with I think. A longer nape can actually be easier to deal with I think. When I shop for fur I look for ones that are "softer". Not the fur itself but the backing. I don't know if it is how it is milled or if they maybe add a starch or something to the backing but some furs are really stiff. I find it easier to work with and a better end product if the backing is pliable. At one time you could get what is called Teddy Bear fur that was very pliable but I have not seen anyone refer to it like that for some time.

He looks great! It would be kind of funny if he had a mustache on his upper lip out of a contrasting fur. I really like the shape of his head.

This photo caught my eye in the upper left random image area and just had to point it out. Not sure if Henry posted about it or not.
So am I the only one who finds this picture funny? There where days when I was performing characters like this that I would have loved to take a dive in the pool. It made me smile.

I think you are right Nall, unless you are a genius it can be a challenge when starting out. Heck I even struggle a bit after not having made anything and getting back into it. Like with anything practice makes perfect.
