Re: Puppet Stands Posted in Puppet Stands on Apr 24, 2018
The PVC puppet rack pattern could accommodate more large puppets if the second row was off set instead of directly under the top row. You would just have to adjust the lengths of the pipe in between the joints.

We got small metal buckets about 8 inches tall with handles from Home Depot and filled them with cement 3/4 full inserting a piece of PVC into the middle of the cement that was an inch higher than the cement level and just a little bit wider than the longer PVC pipe we inserted inside the wide pipe in bucket. The handle made it easier to pick up and move and you could change the length of the PVC to whatever need you had. We used them for stage corners and holding props this enabled one person to set stage up alone. Once we just put a bag of pinto beans in the bucket to make another one quickly, sand bag would work too. Hardest part was inserting the wider pipe straight up while the cement set.

I used to do illusions before puppets, but never thought of combining them. I love the tricks where they think they know how you did it but you prove them wrong and then their mouths hang open. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Puppets Inc sells the same style puppets from the company that is no longer Puppet Productions. I love the Innova style puppets.

Puppets Inc

"In 2009, we (puppetsinc.com) started as a DBA of Frontier Creations Incorporated. In addition to our original puppet designs Frontier Creations acquired the copyrights and exclusive manufacturing rights to the entire former Puppet Productions catalog of puppets and programming."
Re: Puppetry in therapy Posted in Puppetry in therapy on Feb 13, 2018
Puppets are great in therapy. For Children the can relate to the puppet better than an adult, it is a kid like them. Here are two examples:

My brother-in-law is a psychologist who had a child patient who lost his home and mother in a fire and did not talk anymore. I had a blue puppet with a mohawk that no one in my puppet group was using so I asked him if he wanted to use the puppet.  He said the boy grabbed the puppet eagerly and talked to him thru the puppet and then later talked to him directly. It was a huge break through for him. My brother-in-law said to send him as many puppets as I could for the other kids.

I taught a class where we wrote and performed a skit to explain all we had learned in the class. One of the boys was socially very shy, I think he was autistic a little. When we got to the part where we prerecorded the voices he came out with the most hilarious voice and we all burst out laughing, he liked that attention. From that moment on he was the star of the show. His mother was in tears and said she had never seen him come out of his shell like this, it was a turning point in his life.

When I was a kid they used a snake in my speech therapy class to get me to say SSSSSs right.

For using fake fur you can turn under the front edge a little while you sew so the under webbing is not visible on front hairline. I hand tack down the edges on the fur first then tack the "wig" onto the head with curved needle or doll needle that is very long. You don't have to sew it down all over, just edges and a few points in the middle to hold it on. That pink hair looks like it may have also been trimmed more for the long layered look it has.  For longer fur hair you need to wrap it around on the longer side and back part or you will see backing web at the neck. Hold the fur up on the head and you will see what I mean. Hair spray can lift up those little sections for you too.

Thanks for the lovely fall tour, we don't get to see those colors much in Texas.
Flame for Flare Posted in Flame for Flare on Sep 01, 2017
I finally retired from work yesterday!  We did a puppet show at my party to commemorate our successes.  I made floating roof tank and flash tank and a big flare with a flame, oh and Elvis like character.  The flare came out pretty good. I found a hanging Flame light cauldron at Party City and put it on top of a large tube. We used our christmas tree light foot switch to turn the flame on and off.  It had lights and fan that made the flame look very real.  We have been dealing with chemical companies that have trouble keeping their flares lit so it was great that the flame would go out and back on so clearly. I used the tune from the rooster song with new words, I loved that tune from the Booze Brothers video clip. I think it went over pretty good. Here is a shot.

Re: Hair Posted in Hair on Jun 24, 2017
Oh wow that is a great video.  I have always been so unhappy with my "hair" on puppets. This looks great and I think I can do this, but I may need a stylist to do the final cuts to look that good. Thank you so much for sharing this.
